Halloween marketing campaign ideas to boo-ost your business
I’m a Halloween enthusiast. And I mean, a serious enthusiast. Back in my sulky teenage goth years, I’d be more excited about October 31st than Christmas. And I’ve lost count of how often I’ve watched Jack Skellington dance across the screen, singing along to This is Halloween. I’d spend weeks planning the perfect costume, usually something that involved an unhealthy amount of black eyeliner that did nothing for my hooded eyes.
You might not guess my goth past today, though.
(Yeah, I have a thing for pink, apparently)
But my passion for Halloween hasn’t dimmed one bit.
It’s just… evolved.
You’re probably thinking, “Halloween marketing for my business? I barely have time to breathe in between client work, let alone carve a pumpkin!” I hear you. As a busy, online, service-based business or entrepreneur, the last thing you need is another complicated marketing strategy. But it doesn’t have to be complicated—especially not if you grab some Halloween templates to get you going and pair them with the content ideas you get here.
1. The trick-or-treat Halloween email marketing campaign
Sending an email is, in many ways, the digital equivalent of ringing the doorbell. So why not go trick-or-treating? Running a Halloween email marketing campaign is a very simple but effective strategy for coaches, creatives, and other client-based businesses. You can send emails to either run sales or promote your content.
Start by giving your email template a subtle Halloween makeover. You don’t need to go overboard — a few thoughtful design tweaks can make a big impact. Don’t get so caught up in all the spookiness that you lose your brand’s personality. Your emails should still scream “you”, just with a twist.
Consider using a slightly spookier font for your headers. I used the free fonts “Black and White Picture” and “Tallow Sans Pen” when I designed these Halloween marketing and branding templates in Canva:

You can make your headers in the free version of Canva. Just search for email headers or email banners to find the right size. Then swap the fonts, colors, and graphics to spooky ones. Or you can grab the pre-made Halloween Canva templates from my Etsy store right here. I’ve made templates for promoting offers, the latest blog posts, podcasts, or YouTube episodes, as well as general spooky-themed newsletter headers. They pair up beautifully with the Halloween email signature templates, and you get a big discount when you buy them together.
Subject lines & content ideas for your Halloween marketing emails
Next up is your subject lines. Think about what would make you pause and click if you saw it in your inbox. Instead of the generic “Happy Halloween!” try something more intriguing like “Boo! Don’t Miss This Spooktacular Offer!” or “Creep It Real: Your Halloween Marketing Checklist.” You get even more ideas later in the blog post when I list out words, phrases, and slogans you can steal. But what really matters is the actual content.
Before you do anything, think about your goal for the email marketing campaign and how it fits into your overall strategy. Do you want to go all-in on a sales campaign? Or maybe you’re in a season of building trust with new subscribers? Or you’re nurturing your existing clients? Keep that in mind when you start writing those emails.
Here are some Halloween email marketing campaign ideas:
- Week 1: Share a blog post about managing time during the hectic holiday season. (That’s your ‘trick’)
- Week 2: Offer a sweet discount on your services or a free resource. (There’s your ‘treat’)
- Week 3: Send out a spooky self-care checklist. Because let’s face it, we all need a reminder to take care of ourselves during busy times.
- Halloween itself: Wrap it all up with a final reminder of your offer and a festive little greeting.
You’ll have to edit this to fit your brand and business, of course. Here’s some Halloween marketing emails for life and wellness coaches:
- Email 1: “Escape the Chaos with a Spooky Self-Care Treat”: Start by sharing a personal anecdote about your own struggles with balancing work and life during the holidays. Then, give them a simple self-care ritual or practice they can easily add to their daily routine. This could, for example, be a simple 5-minute meditation, a mindful walk, printable affirmation cards, or journal prompts.
- Email 2: “Don’t Be a Ghost to Yourself This Halloween”: Remind subscribers it’s okay to say “no” to energy-draining commitments. Then you can offer tips on setting boundaries and prioritizing their well-being. And just for fun, add a cute GIF of a ghost waving goodbye to a pile of to-dos.
- Email 3: “Your Permission Slip to Relax (and a Special Offer)”: Now it’s your turn to treat them by offering an exclusive discount on your services or products. If you don’t want to run a sale, how about creating a really valuable freebie for them? You can always re-use that freebie later by offering it as an opt-in or adding it to your existing products and client packages.
The goal here is to be a friendly witch with a cauldron full of self-care potions, not a sales-hungry zombie. You want a mix of ‘tricks’ (valuable tips or insights) and ‘treats’ (those juicy offers or discounts). After all, you care about your people and want to provide real value. But don’t focus only on value — you’re in business to make a living for yourself.
2. Run a social media costume contest for your services
You don’t need a physical office to run a costume party or contest—make it virtual! Now, I know what you’re thinking. “But Eileen, I barely have time to post on Instagram, let alone run a contest!” Trust me, I get it. As a mom of two boys who can never say no to more animals …
(I have a dog, cat, and a Fjord Horse called Stella. And I’m currently wondering how long it would take my hubby ((Steffen)) to twig if I got another Fjord Horse. In his eyes, they all look alike. And yes, I’d love it if you shared a little about your pets in the comments, even and especially if it’s completely unrelated to the topic.)
… I know the struggle of juggling business and family all too well. But this doesn’t have to be big and costly. Keep it simple and make it fun. A very simple marketing campaign idea is just asking them to share photos of their Halloween costumes on social media with a branded hashtag. The winner gets a prize, such as a free consultation.
Another easy and fun idea is to offer discounts on your products or services for anyone who participates. This is also a great alternative to running a sale. You could also offer to re-share their posts on your stories. That way, they get the added bonus of increased exposure (since you’re sharing their post with your people!). Aaaaaaand you automatically get more Halloween-themed content for your socials. Brilliant!
P.S. You can create some fun and simple Halloween marketing emails by sharing a few of these posts with your newsletter. But remember to get permission first!
3. Create a Halloween-inspired product or special offer
Some really fun Halloween marketing campaign ideas are to create a new spooky product or dress up your existing client-based offers. You could even create a really simple and short free session to get more clients instead of doing discovery or sales calls.
Here’s what to do if you want to put a costume on your existing client-based offers:
- Rename 3-5 of your core services with Halloween-themed titles.
- Share these spooky service names on your social media or in your newsletter.
- Explain you’ve put a Halloween costume on your offers and offer them with a discount.
If you want to create new client-based offers or free discovery sessions with you:
- Make sure your consultation is on-brand and leads naturally to your bigger offers, such as 1:1 work or client packages.
- Choose a specific problem you can figure out in just one session. You don’t need to solve the entire problem, but the client needs to walk away with clear action steps they can do on their own (or if they can’t be bothered to do it themselves after all, they can just hire you).
- Pick a spooky-themed name for the offer to keep it in line with your Halloween sales and marketing strategy.
Need some inspiration? Here’s some examples you can swipe:
- Life coach: “Goal-Setting Session” becomes “Séance with Your Future Self”
- Business coach: “Productivity Coaching” turns into “Exorcising Your Time-Wasting Demons”
- Fitness coach: “Personalized Workout Plan” becomes “Your Zombie Apocalypse Survival Workout Routine”
- Social media manager: “Instagram Audit for Small Businesses” turns into “Unmasking Your Insta-Monsters: Small Business Profile Optimization”
- Graphic designer: “Logo Design” transforms into “Get Your Magic Sigil: Logo Design For Small Business”
- Mindfulness coach: “Meditation Workshop” becomes “Quieting Your Mind Monsters Meditation”
- Web designer: “Website Audit” turns into “Exorcising Your Site’s Digital Demons.”

4. Do a Halloween-inspired collaboration to grow your audience
A great way to grow your audience is through collaborations. It’s like trick-or-treating for businesses. But instead of candy, we’re collecting leads and connections. So why not team up with your biz besties? You can also find people to collaborate with by asking in FB groups for businesses and entrepreneurs — just read the group rules first to make sure it’s allowed. Let’s say you’re a life coach, and you’re collaborating with a productivity consultant.
You could, for example, create a free workshop on “Slaying Your Time-Sucking Demons” and cross-promote it to your audiences. Then you both bring something to the table, and your audience gets a bag full of valuable treats. Plus, you get to tap into each other’s audiences, potentially doubling your reach without doubling your effort.
Does the thought of reaching out to strangers make you want to hide under a blanket like a scared ghost? Yeah, me too. This introvert here much prefers writing. So another way to collaborate is to make Halloween-inspired freebies to offer to each other’s lists or exchange blog posts. And if one or both of you have a podcast or YouTube channel, you can do an episode together or interview one another.
(Shameless plug: you find promos for blog posts, podcasts, and YouTube episodes inside my Halloween email header templates).
5. Simple and fun Halloween content ideas
A very simple Halloween marketing idea is to create bite-sized social media content. Because our attention spans are shorter than a vampire’s time in sunlight. We’re all constantly scrolling, swiping, and moving on to the next shiny thing. Bite-sized content treats are the perfect way to engage your audience without overwhelming them. And do them vampire-themed to match the Halloween spirit.
Here’s how to sink your teeth into this idea (pun intended):
- Brainstorm a list of quick tips related to your expertise. If you’re a business coach, it could be productivity hacks or mindset shifts. If you’re a web designer, think about easy ways to improve a website. Focus on actionable advice your audience can implement quickly.
- Give each tip a vampiric twist. This is where the fun really begins! Instead of just “3 Productivity Hacks,” how about “3 Ways to Stop Your To-Do List from Sucking The Life Out of You”? Or if you’re talking about positioning yourself as an expert, try “Stake Your Claim: Becoming the Van Helsing of Your Industry.” The spookier and pun-nier, the better!
- Create simple, eye-catching graphics for each tip. You don’t need to be a design wizard to make these look good. Canva has some great Halloween templates you can use. Think dark backgrounds, spooky fonts, and maybe a few bats or cobwebs for good measure. The goal is to make your audience stop mid-scroll and think, “Ooh, what’s this?”
- Share these across your social media, in your email newsletter, or on your blog. The beauty of bite-sized content is that it works everywhere. Post a tip on Instagram with a catchy caption. Make a TikTok using B-rolls. Tweet it out to your followers. Include one in your weekly newsletter as a “Spooky Tip of the Week.” You could even create a roundup blog post of all your tips once you’ve already posted a few.
Use these content ideas to start conversations. Ask your audience to share their own spooky productivity hacks or their biggest time-sucking vampires. It’s good for engagement, while giving you insight into your audience’s needs and challenges. Think of it as leaving a trail of breadcrumbs (or should I say, candy corn?) that leads right back to your paid offerings.
6. Host a spooky-themed giveaway
Who doesn’t love free stuff? I love both giving and receiving gifts. Anyone else who gets so excited when buying gifts that you almost spoil the surprise because you just can’t wait until they open it? No? Just me … ? Halloween giveaways are a very simple marketing strategy that you can easily do online. And of course, I have some ideas for online and service-based businesses and entrepreneurs:
- Think about what you can offer that would be truly valuable to your audience. Maybe it’s a free 30-minute “Ghostbusting Your Business Blocks” session or a “Productivity Spellbook” downloadable planner.
- Instead of just announcing your giveaway, turn it into an event. Create some suspense and excitement around it. You could, for example, reveal clues about the prize over a few days.
- Another option is to ask people to enter by sharing their biggest business “horror story” in the comments.
Halloween marketing spellbook, aka playbook with words, phrases, and slogans
Are you stuck on ideas for what to actually write in your Halloween marketing content? I’ve pulled together some words, phrases, and slogans you can copy for your campaigns. You can use them in your emails, social media, blog posts, marketing graphics, etc. The trick is to sprinkle these words in lightly. Just a little goes a long way.
Words and phrases with different vibes & feels to them:
- Eerie & enchanting: Bewitching, enchanting, spellbinding, mystical, magical, eerie, mysterious, spooky, ghostly, shadowy, ethereal, otherworldly, possess.
- Festive & fun: Pumpkin spice, trick-or-treat, haunted, spooky season, cauldron, potion, charm, amulet, goblin, ghoul, ghost, vampire, werewolf, zombie, monster mash, costume party, jack-o’-lantern, broomstick, magic wand, grimoire, witch’s brew.
- Action-Oriented: Conjure, haunt, summon, unearth, unveil, reveal, transform, transcend, awaken, ignite, invoke, summon, spellbind.
- Intriguing & Mysterious: Secrets, hidden, forbidden, enchanted, cursed, spellbound, under wraps, in the shadows, haunt, charm.
Halloween-inspired and spooky wordplay, slogans, and phrases:
- “Creep it real.”
- “Ghouls just wanna have fun.”
- “Witch, please!”
- “Fang-tastic offers!”
- “Bone appetit!”
- “Have a fa-boo-lous Halloween!”
- “Our cursed good deals will haunt you if you miss them!”
- “Ghostbusting your business challenges since [your founding year].”
- “Tricks for your competition, treats for your bottom line.”
- “Witch, please. We’ve got your business covered.”
For example, instead of your usual “5 Tips for Better Time Management,” try “5 Spells to Conjure More Hours in Your Day.” If you’re unsure of how much is too much, just remember that clarity always trumps cleverness. Nobody will read or watch your content — or buy your products and services — if they’re confused.
Pulling it all together to turn the ideas into a solid Halloween marketing campaign
Before you implement every single spooky strategy (because I know how tempting that is), let’s take a breath. We’re aiming for simplicity and effectiveness here. First things first, pick your poison. Choose one or two ideas that really resonate with you and your business. Maybe it’s the email campaign that’s calling your name. Or perhaps you’re itching to host that virtual costume contest? Whatever it is, give it your full attention.
Now grab your planner and map it all out. If you have time, you can combine a select few. For example, you can start with some spooky social media content in early October. You could then ramp up with an email series mid-month. Then you finish it all with an offer right before Halloween. If you’re short on time, choose the strategy that fits your overall marketing best. For example, do social media if that’s where you’ve got the biggest audience. If you get better responses by sending newsletters, then do a Halloween email campaign instead.
Conclusion: Use the Halloween marketing ideas to grow and connect with your audience
Halloween marketing is more than just dressing up your business in a costume. It’s an amazing way to connect with your people in a fun way. But keep it simple and on-brand so you don’t end up overwhelmed and exhausted. We’re not about that kinda life over here. I know how overwhelming it can feel to add another task to your already packed schedule. So my recommendation is to pick one or two ideas and stick to them.
And if you want to simplify these ideas even more, grab some Halloween marketing templates from my Etsy shop. They’re all easy to edit in the free version of Canva. Best of luck and have fun!
